Mason, Richfield Park BMX newest Intermediate
In the coming year we look to have a increase in rider interest as our hard work over the past five years has paid off with our being awarded the opportunity to host the 2012 Great Lakes National.  Their is a lot to do from this point on to prepare for this event.  We will need at least 50 volunteers to help us make Richfield Park BMX a track that racers will want to make a return trip to.  We are currently in the process of making contact with different board member contacts in the Boy Scout troops they spend time with.  We also are looking to the BMX community for support to help us with this task.  It's important that we get this part of our responsibility done as soon as possible so we can work on other aspects of hosting a National event.   To my knowledge, our volunteers would simply have the areas of handling daily raffles  ( 50/50), parking for both spectators and racers, trash removal, and concessions sales.  Track repair and maintenance will likely be a part of our duties too.  The responsibility of running the race is handled by USABMX and that includes the announcing of the race.  Although, I would not doubt some of our local announcers may be allowed to put forth their verbal announcing skills during the races.   If anyone is interested in being a volunteer at the National please contact any of the board members of Richfield Park BMX.

During the last three weeks of the 2011 race season, changes were made to the track in straights two and three.  The roller after the Euro double in the second straight has been removed and a step down  was made after the Euro double leading up to the step up which goes into the second turn.  On the third straight, we raised the flat after the step up coming out of the second turn and built back up the step up itself.    We also raised the flat after the small table in the third straight and built up the back of the step up after the table.  It is likely we will add about 6 inches in height to the small table in the spring to allow for a better flow down the straight to the last turn.    Eventually the changes will settle and have a better flow for the racers.   The clay added to the flats has settled and drains off the track a bit better than it had due to its' surface being raked smooth and no longer will slow the progress of racers down the straights.
Not only did we make changes on the track, we also moved a bunch of clay to the trails section to start the process of building a pump track and make the trail section more fun to ride.  There was a short period of time at the beginning of January that the weather was above 40 degrees for about a week.  During that time, I took the opportunity to start shaping the pump track and raking clay over the sandy portions of the trails section.  Along with the rake job, I pulled several big rocks and boulders from the clay in the pump track area.  By the time winter turns back to spring, the pump track area will be ready for some more raking out and finesse work.    If you would like to help us get the trails area set up and ready to ride we welcome your help.   It is going to take alot of hard work by hand to shape it to the point that everyone will be wanting to hang out at the trail section and have fun while keeping their skills sharp and ready for racing.    With your help, we can make the back area of the Richfield Park BMX to one that everyone will enjoy.  However, if it is just left up to one person doing the work, it will take a lot longer and tougher to get to the point where riders can't wait to come back and enjoy the tracks backyard.

If you can't make the races, head on over and get in on the Thursday afternoon gate practice that take place from 5pm till 8 pm.  Bring your friends and let them know this is the best time to get use to riding the track and improve their skills.  And let their parents know they can race too.

Due to changing weather forecast here in Michigan, everyone should call ahead, check for a mobile alert, or the website prior to making your trip to the track.  We are always hoping for the best racing conditions.

I would like to mention and thank some area businesses who sponsored the following racers.  First,
